Seriously, Sunday is really no fun.
One would say Sunday is all about relaxing and refreshing yourself for the upcoming week and that would be quite true. But that’s impossible if you have already set a work schedule for yourself and you have to work on Sunday to complete that deadline.
Even when you just want to be lazy and relax, you can’t.
Aside from the project, there are hundreds of things to do when you are home and its SUNDAY.
Anyway, enough moping around. Lets see what little I have done today. 😛
I found a solution for one of my problems that I wrote yesterday. I solved that empty row data entry in my database table. Now my display query is also working.
It’s a little progress but still a progress. So, cheers to me! ^_^
Now I’m thinking about creating my plugin using AJAX. From what I’ve read AJAX is used for creating dynamic web pages. It solves the problem of reloading the web page to update the data on that page. I see a greater scope for my plugin.
I didn’t really did much today so I’ll do twice the work tomorrow, to keep it balanced you know. 😉
Another day gone. A regular day right? Maybe.. for some people it was a regular day but for people interested in UI (User Interface) technology, it was a big day.
Yeah, June 29th is celebrated as “UI DAY”. At-least we GD members did. 😛
Well I came to know about this day from Inderpreet. He told us that in 1975, on this very day Steve Wozniak (co-founder of Apple Inc.) for very first time entered a key that displayed on the screen. He booted the collection of computer hardware from Motorolla 6800 CPU and other parts long enough to show Steve Jobs the prototype for Apple I. And we all are aware what follows. 🙂
Another interesting fact is that on June 29, 2007 the first iPhone was released.
Inderpreet also gave an excellent presentation on SASS. Introduced us to the CSS-guru Chris Coyier. I’ll certainly check out his websites and if you are interested then you should too.
Now to talk about my plugin development stuff,
it is frustrating and tiring. IF one thing works then other one fails and if that one works then some other might stop working. Lately, I’m having not one not two but three problems.
The first one is that when my plugin is activated, it creates a table in my database which it should. But the table should be empty. And on activating the plugin my table is created but with one empty record.
The second one is that when I add a record in the table, the id [auto incremented] value is changing a lot, it skips certain values. This is not good.
And the third problem is that I can’t seem to figure out the way to redirect to my original form page after submitting that form. I want user to fill the details of the form, submit it and then the new page (or the original form filling page) should be displayed.
I want to solve these problems by tomorrow. Lets see what happens.

Yes, finally.. I am on a roll. Today, I did what I should have done ages ago. Okay.. I’m exaggerating a bit. 😉
But seriously I should have started making plugins earlier in the training, say like last week or two. Well can’t really do anything about that now.
I made a small plugin today for my WordPress. It seems complicated, the plugin development, but once you get the hang of it then it’s just the smooth ride with occasional bumps on the way.
I’ll post another blog, like a tutorial, on creating your first plugin later.
Oh yeah, that awesome moment when you achieve something that you thought was really hard to grab. I know I have a long road ahead but still it feels great. 🙂
This is the first time in my project that I feel I have done something that could be considered difficult.
On the last note, those who think building websites and being web-developer is easy I dare you to make one and see for yourself how’s the experience. 😀
You’ll never know your strengths and weaknesses till you explore them.
Never be afraid to take on new challenges.
I am still stuck at creating a logo for the website. I thought being good at drawing would be enough but that’s not the case. You have to have an artistic mind to achieve these kind of things.
And yes I am good at drawing. You don’t believe me? Check out my drawings here.
Well now I’m sure you can understand my frustration at not being able to create/design a logo.
But I’ve to keep trying.
You gonna get hurt ’cause thats how you’ll learn,
You gotta try your hardest no matter how much it’ll burn.
I’ve made a website using WordPress. I used a free theme, installed many plugins and made a pretty appreciable site.
But I feel as if I haven’t really done much. I know I could do so much more.
There are lots of tutorials and helping guides available on the internet which makes it difficult to choose one. How do we figure which one’s better?
The answer is we can’t. We can check the reviews and feedbacks from the people but we can’t really be sure unless we try it ourselves.
Now, I’m sincerely hoping to gain some useful info real soon.
Its lot harder if you don’t share your burdens with someone. But it is guaranteed that you’ll feel great if you do. I don’t know where I would be or how far would I’ve proceeded in my project if not for GD.
Really amazing people there. I get lot of help and suggestions from everyone to help me improve, be it my project or myself.
Logo Designing is not so simple. It really brings your creative side. And if you aren’t a creative type then don’t worry you can still call designers to design you a logo. 😀
There are lots of things to be considered while designing a logo for a company or a website or anything. Logo is a representation. Well, you can imagine Apple, Blackberry, Adobe, Firefox, etc. Each and every logo is unique and thats why they are so popular.
And I still need to work on SASS.
I learned about new things today: LESS and SASS.
These are CSS Preprocessors. They allow more clean writing of CSS codes. They provide mechanisms like variables, nesting, mixins, operators and functions.
Really powerful stuff. 🙂
Instead of using standard CSS coding we can use LESS and SASS methods. They take your CSS coding to level up or two.
Looking forward to work on these two.
Also downloaded Bones theme. Its a great foundation to create a wordpress project. It includes LESS and SASS.
It falls under the License WTFPL.
There is only one growth strategy – Work Hard.
Its time to work on creating our own personalized theme for WordPress. After a lengthy discussion yesterday, we (Nivrit and I) are now going to create a new responsive theme.
Everyone suggested that we should present our own design for the website. So this time we are going to create our own designed website.
I’m looking at some of the responsive theme design tutorials right now. Will start working on theme design from tomorrow. Maybe create a plugin or two in the near future too. 🙂
Yeah, you read that right. My project is far from being done. So after giving my presentation, its officially re-opened. 😀
I should be sad that its not over but actually I’m not. Why?
Because now I’ll learn things at much higher level. The problems and mistakes that were pointed out to me made me realize that I hadn’t really done much in context with Web Development.
I was so busy looking at the bigger picture that I missed those small pieces of the puzzle. I shouldn’t have left everything to the WP themes and plugins. Now I’ve realized that these utilities are there to provide us help but its us who should know how to take it.
Anyway, my presentation went well. I was nervous in the beginning but I did much better after that, thanks to Nivrit who saved our presentation while I was creating a mess.
The conclusion that I drew from the discussion after the presentation was that there is a BIG room for improvement. So many points to consider and too many mistakes to look over.
Well I guess its a fresh start now. We’ll see what happens next!

Its Midnight, I’m still working on my report “Making of Sports Website”.
I never knew it would take this long to make a report.
Dr.Rai allowed me to write a report on my blog and I’m doing that.
I’ll try to complete my report by tomorrow.. no today (its past midnight now :P).
I’m giving a presentation today at 10:30 on my project. What, why and how.. I’ll try to explain these.
There was a presentation on C++ last evening. How g++ compiler complies the source file? What are the steps involved in them?
Really, I always thought that compiler just compiles our source program and give us the executable file. Never gave much thought about the in-between individual processes.
